FXEV-022: Kuroyuri
PERSONALITY
Kuroyuri is a calm, and rather self-centered individual. He tends to blow every story he tells of himself far out of proportion, giving every little tale a twist of dramatic flair. He’ll go on and on about his travels, his past companions, and sometimes his own personal beauty. He talks to get others interested, and keep them hooked. This is also how he reels in his clients, be it for his actual line of work as a wandering fortune teller, or to eat them.
It also tends to be very flirtatious. Kuroyuri will flirt with others naturally, often finding the reactions it receives to be humorous. Gender doesn’t matter to Kuroyuri, as it will make smooth comments regardless of how one presents itself. However, this flirting never seems to go anywhere, as Kuroyuri has never settled down with anyone before. Whether or not it’s simply how it acts, or if it does this as another way to lure in its next meal, is a mystery.
Despite their assumed refusal to take on a romantic partner, Kuroyuri is not opposed to making different types of connections with others. They enjoy having a traveling companion, and often follow those they find interest in across the land, joining in on magic shows and circuses whenever it has the chance to.
HISTORY
Long, long ago, before it gained its standing form, Kuroyuri was simply a mischievous fox, as most tales go. Its traveling companion was a young human boy, and it played with the boy for years. The two were inseparable. They could be like brothers, if not for the fact that Kuroyuri was, well, a fox. The boy did street magic for money, being chased out of town many times and traveling to the next. Kuroyuri followed him everywhere. However, a plague hit one day, and the boy fell victim to it. Kuruyuri took up his magic tricks, learning all that it could, and once it obtained the power to take a standing form, it took its show on the road.
Kuroyuri’s past is discussed very often in his stories, but it’s rare that you’ll ever hear it in its original telling. He has very fond memories of times before he gained his ninth tail, most of which being of times he spent with his traveling partners. He speaks often of a ‘lost love’, but who this love is remains unknown, just as the amount of truth left in the story. Oftentimes in his storytelling, the dramatics will start to falter, and you can see a soft look upon the kumiho’s face as he retells some of his oldest memories.
DETAILS
Kuroyuri has a soft spot for spiders. They are often seen with a beloved spider pet, which they carry in varying containers. Each has a unique, almost royal name, and many of these cages are hung from Kuroyuri’s wagon. In a humorous twist, despite adoring spiders, the kumiho is downright terrified of cats, having a horrible case of ailurophobia. They refuse to get close to cats, and begin to go into a panic if one is nearby.
He has nine tails, but in his feral form, these tails merge into one with his magic. His ears and tongue are also extra tentacles, giving him a somewhat more intimidating appearance, if his extra eyes and slit mouth don’t already do the trick.
It also enjoys roses, and burning different incense in its wagon as well as in its fortune telling tent. Given the attention Kuroyuri pays to its own beauty, it finds great pleasure in visiting salons whenever it can.
His scarf was a gift from the boy he was companions with many, many years ago. It has become a comfort item, and Kuroyuri refuses to part with it.
